Snow Monkeys of Japan (Nihonzaru) - 2014/03/15
For years, I have heard about the “amazing” Japanese Snow Monkeys (Nihonzaru). For years, I have seen astonishing photographs of these monkeys taken by photographers from Japan and other countries. For years, I have planned to take a look at these monkeys with my own eyes but never made it. And finally, earlier this month, I managed to head over to Jigokudani Yaen Koen in Nagano to catch a glimpse of the famous Japanese Macaque (fondly referred to as the Snow Monkey). These unique primates enjoy soaking themselves in natural hot springs in winter, very much like we humans enjoy the “onsen”, which is a quintessential Japanese experience. And what a trip this turned out to be. Despite the fact that the snow wasn’t that great at the time I went, what I saw of these one of a kind species of primates will remain etched in my mind forever and will make me go back there again in the near future for more. I feel the excitement got the better of me and I could have surely done a better job with the photographs… nevertheless, if you would like to see the photographs I took at the park, do scroll down below. Cheers! Ani.Read More
